2012 Miss Universe winners

I must admit that between the 2 remaining beauties, Miss USA and Miss PHILIPPINES, vying for the title of 2012 MISS UNIVERSE it’s MISS PHILIPPINES who should get the title. It is not because she is a Filipino but judging how she carried herself during the swimsuit, long gown and most especially in the Q & A portion, she showed she deserved the title.

But in any competition, judges’ decision is always final and we must respect the outcome. Janine gave her best not only for herself but for the country and she landed as 1st runner up. We must all be happy for her as how happy she was with what she achieved.

My heartfelt congratulations to you Janine, you truly are a Miss Universe.

Gwendolyn Ruais @ Miss World 2011

Gwendolyn Ruais, the first Miss World Philippines (first contestant not under Bb. Pilipinas), took first runner-up honors in Miss World 2011 on Sunday, November 6, (Monday morning in Manila) at the Earls Court Two in London. She has duplicated Evangeline Pascual‘s 1st runner up feat in Miss World 1973 in London, still the best placement of a Pinay beauty in the Miss World pageant. The crown remains elusive to a Filipina as Miss World is still the only title among grand slam beauty pageants that hasn’t won by the Philippines.

Over the weekend, Gwendolyn made it to the pageant’s three fast track events – Top 20 in Beach Beauty, Top 20 in Top Model and Top 10 in Beauty with a Purpose. Her inclusion in the said preliminaries earned for Gwendolyn enough points to enter the Top 30 quarterfinalists.

The Top 30 was trimmed down into 15 semi-finalists with Miss Puerto Rico at the top of the leaderboard. From the 15 semi-finalists, the panel of judges picked the Top 7 namely Miss England, Miss Korea, Miss Philippines, Miss Puerto Rico, Miss Scotland, Miss South Africa and Miss Venezuela.

Miss Venezuela was declared the winner while our very own Gwendolyn Ruais settled for first runner-up placement. Miss Puerto Rico, Amanda Perez, came third in the contest. Gwendolyn was also named a Continental Queen of Beauty for the Asia Pacific.

Miss Earth 2011 & Miss Philippines Earth 2011

The 11th edition of the Miss Earth pageant, Miss Earth 2011, is scheduled on November 19, 2011 at the exotic city of Pattaya in Thailand. After last year’s pageant held in Nha Trang, Vietnam, this is the second consecutive year that it’s held outside the Philippines. On 2012, the pageant will return in Vietnam.

Update on Miss Phillippines Earth 2011: Jonavi Raisa Quiray from Puerto Princesa won the coveted Best in Swimsuit Award. A title holder, Mutya ng Pilipinas 2008, her experience makes her a fierce competitor in the 2011 Miss Philippines Earth pageant. Special award winners during the swimsuit competition are Michelle Gavagan (Miss Golden Sunset) and Murielle Adrienne Orais (Miss Gandang Ricky Reyes).

9 or 10 candidates will be eliminated this Saturday in Calapan, Mindoro as the competition heats up. The coronation night of Miss Philippines Earth 2011 will be held in Puerto Princesa on June 5, 2011.

2011 Bb. Pilipinas winners

A magna cum laude graduate in B.S. Architecture from UP Diliman and topped the June 2010 Architecture Licensure Exam, SHAMCEY SUPSUP, beat 39 other candidates for the title of Bb. Pilipinas Ms. Universe 2011 at the Araneta Coliseum on Sunday evening. She also graduated salutatorian in high school at Makati High School.

A lady from General Santos City who stands 5’7’ answered the question: "What worthy cause do you identify yourself with and why?" Her answer: "I think the one worthy cause I can identify myself with is valuing education. Because I believe education is something that cannot be taken away from you. You can have money, you can have fame, but in the end, it can be taken from you. But education will always be there to help you."

Reigning Binibining Pilipinas Melody Gersbach, her driver and manager died on the spot after their Innova car collided head-on with a Guevarra bus at Barangay Pawili in Bula town at past 11 a.m. Saturday, according to a report aired over Bombo Radyo. They were heading to Naga City in Camarines Sur for a local beauty pageant when the fatal accident happened.

Mr. & Ms. Splash Island 2010 crowned

Summer heat intenses up as twenty four (24) young and gorgeous contestants participated in the first ever Bikini Open competition at the world class facilities of Splash Island situated at Biñan, Laguna. Dr. Victor Manabat, Dean of Saint Michael College and organizer of the event, and Splash Island Global Gutz Park Philippines owner Mr. Sonny Torres spearheaded the project in connection with the Fiesta Celebration of Biñan, Laguna. The two weeks festivities at Splash Island showcased the cultural history of Biñan, Laguna with colorful cultural performances by Biñan Dance Troupe composing of students from various schools in Biñan.

24 contestants participated in the first ever Bikini Open / Mr. & Ms. Splash Island competition wherein no other than Congressional Spouse & Actress Shiela Israel acted as Chairman of the Board of Judges. Declared winners for the female category are Ms. Khrish San Diego (contestant #10) as MS. SPLASH ISLAND 2010, Ms. Zandralene Mariano (contestant #1) as 1st Runner Up and Ms. Jean Lorraine Mamino (contestant #12) as the 2nd Runner Up. For the male category, winners are contestant #1 Mr. Mark Anthony Benito, contestant #11 Mr. Paulo Martinez and contestant #12 Mr. Carlo Algarne who won MR. SPLASH ISLAND 2010, 1st Runner Up and 2nd Runner Up respectively. Cash prizes and the exclusivity to be image promoters of Splash Island were awarded to the winners.

Re-elected Biñan MAYOR LEN ALONTE NAGUIAT lauded Splash Island management, the organizers of the event and all the contestants that participated for making the fiesta of Biñan a memorable event for the youth sector and all Biñanenses.

Miss Venezuela: 2009 Miss Universe

Today is the beautiful day in the universe as the Miss Universe pageant concluded another glamorous year for 2009. The 18-year old Stefania Fernandez of Venezuela was crowned as the 2009 Miss Universe (58th winner). Miss Dominican Republic, Ada Aimee de la Cruz, was the runner up. Miss China, Wang Jingyao, was named Miss Congeniality and Miss Thailand, Chutima Durongdej, won Miss Photogenic.

2009 Miss Universe Pageant

The crowned Binibining Pilipinas 2009, Pamela Bianca Manalo, is the country’s pride and representative for the Miss Universe 2009. The 58th Annual MISS UNIVERSE competition will be held LIVE at the Imperial Ballroom of Atlantis, Paradise Island, Bahamas on Sunday, August 23rd on NBC and Telemundo at 9 PM (ET). ABS-CBN will telecast LIVE the said pageant.
