The kidnapping case of the ABS-CBN television crew is proof that some politicians use criminal activities to raise funds for their election campaigns, an anti-crime crusader said Saturday.

Flash floods and landslides triggered by Typhoon "Frank" (international codename Fengshen) have left at least 14 people dead and forced the evacuation of thousands of others in the Philippines, officials said Saturday.
The Risao river in the town of Upi in southern Maguindanao province overflowed and washed away at least five houses, Army’s 6th Infantry Division spokesman Lt. Col. Julieto Ando said.
Ten people drowned while at least eight others were missing, Ando said.

METRO: Parents of teen mom face raps
The Manila Police District said Friday it is preparing frustrated infanticide charges against the grandparents of "Mayumi," the baby girl who was allegedly thrown out of a taxicab by her 15-year-old mother right after birth.
Police identified Mayumi's grandparents as Elena Tria and her live-in partner Marcus de Guzman. They will be charged with frustrated infanticide for allowing their 15-year-old daughter to toss her newborn daughter out of the vehicle as it passed through Paco district. More...
