What is your favorite perfume?

I do love perfume and my personal favorite is “Ananya” from The Body Shop. This perfume oil came us a birthday gift to me by hubby and since then I switched to it. Why? I am trapped with its smooth scent that really never leaves my body easily. The fragrance is so soft yet inviting. After shower, I towel dry my body and apply it. It is very practical because I only need small amount of it to cover my target area and presto I feel great and smell great the whole day.

As compared to body splash or spray perfume, I preferred oil perfumes like Ananya. I came across perfume blog on the net featuring reviews about different perfumes like TalkPerfume.com and I find it helpful and informative to perfume lovers like me. I might be deeply in love with Ananya but I am open to try others out of my curiosity.

Food bite: Grilled lumot (Inihaw na lumot)

Last Friday, the younger sister of my father-in-law from Australia gave us a 3 day visit. She arrived last April 20 and will leave on May 12. Upon learning that my mother-in-law got hospitalized she went for a visit. Yesterday (Sunday), she was fetched by her sons so we prepared something for lunch. Part of the menu is this grilled lumot (big squid). Pictures below is Tita during her city tour in Australia.

Ingredients:
  • 4 pieces lumot, cleaned
  • 4 pieces tomatoes, diced
  • 4 pieces onions, diced
  • 2 packs Eden cheese (small packs), diced
  • 1 small can of Pineapple juice
Sauce:
  • Soy sauce
  • Lemon juice
  • Siling labuyo (hot chili peppers)
Grilling preparations:

Soak the cleaned lumot in one small can of pineapple juice 30 minutes before grilling. While waiting for that mixed the diced tomatoes, onions and cheese. When the lumot is done, put the filling (mixed ingredients) inside the lumot. To avoid the ingredients from spilling while grilling it, put at least two toothpicks on the opening of the lumot. Grill the lumot on medium flame for 8-10 minutes or until it turns reddish. High flame will dry the lumot and makes it taste bitter. After grilling, cut it into parts and arrange it in a plate.

YouTube videos: Splash Island Resort's Agos Grandes

This is the second video hubby took last April 4 on our visit to Splash Island Resort. Maybe you are familiar with the wave pool you encounter with other resorts but this one is different as to its surroundings. The wave pool of the resort is called “Agos Grandes.” The machine-generated waves create the big waves as guests immerse themselves and play with the tide. Just in front of the wave pool is a place in the resort where you can find sand similar to Boracay. You can lie down for a nap, play with the sand or have a sort of beach volleyball. Aside from that there are food stalls near the pool to fill your craving stomach. And not only that, every afternoon there are live band performances to complete your visit in the resort. Additional tents are now in place on the vicinity to cater the increasing number of guests who want to watch the bands. You can check their website here for more information.

YouTube videos: Splash Island Resort's Rio MontaƱosa

The family’s first visit to Splash Island Resort happened on April 4 when the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) held an affair in the said resort. We had a great time especially the kids because the place is totally awesome as compared to other resorts we had visited. There are amazing slides, jam-packed facilities and amenities plus plenty of food chains (concessionares) inside the resort.

The first video (I uploaded it on my YouTube account - housewifeatwork) I want to share with you is what they called “Rio MontaƱosa.” To ride on this, you need to go up I think on the 4th or 5th floor of a building. The raft can carry 4-5 persons and there are lifeguards to assist you before your raft is release. Check out the video and see how long and twirled the slide you need to go through before the big splash at the end. Happy viewing!!!

SPLASH ISLAND RESORT location map

I checked on the new site of SPLASH ISLAND RESORT located in Southwoods Ecocentrum BiƱan, Laguna and extracted the map to share to those people interested to visit this great resort.

We are from Montalban, Rizal and the best and easiest way for us to reach the resort is via SOUTHWOODS EXIT of South Luzon Expressway and after the exit you will see the Sto. NiƱo de Cebu church and from there the resort is just a straight road ahead less than 500m.

Splash Island Resort Laguna, Philippines

My boy turned 5 last April 18 and we decided to go on swimming for the celebration. Together with my 2 sisters and their families plus some relatives, the family went again to the NEW SPLASH ISLAND RESORT located in Southwoods BiƱan, Laguna.

The first time for the family to visit the resort was last April 4 when the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) held an affair and we were invited. That was the first time for me to see this world class facilities and amenities of Splash Island Resort. I said NEW because it is now being operated under the new management, Global Gutz Park Philippines owned by Businessman Sonny Torres.

I am not the only one amazed by this resort but my sisters as well and their families and the guests who are fortunate to visit the resort. The place has not only simple pools to take a plunge but rides and slides to give a complete aqua thrill and adventures. Another great thing you will observe is the presence of many concessionaires (30++) who offer different food to cater your craving stomach at reasonable prices. Safety and security is not a question too. Aside from the presence of many lifeguards dispose everywhere they have first aid clinic, ready ambulance, K9 dog and roving policemen.

A huge space that can cater 15,000 guests complete with facilities, amenities, food and security is such a perfect place where family, friends and group excursionists can get a complete splash experience. On May 1 is another day for the family to get another plunge for Home Radio 97 dot 9 Bigger Summer Splash @ Splash Island. See you!!!

Travel Philippines: Local liquors (Alak)

Alak” is the generic Tagalog term for liquor or wine. Philippines do have local liquors that are indigenous and commercially manufactured beverages. Aside from tobacco industry, the production of liquors is also one of the most profitable industries here. However, because of the invasion and supremacy of commercial drinks, our native drinks have been confined to small-scale local productions. Below are some of our common native liquors you may want to try on from WikiPilipinas (I can’t drink coz I have allergy on alcohol):

TUBA

Tuba is coconut toddy that has a stinging sweet and bittersweet taste. The process involves extracting the sap of an unopened coconut bud. The tip of the bud is lopped and the pale juice allowed trickles into bamboo containers. A sturdy tree yields about a gallon of liquid daily. The fermenting process involves the sweetish liquid is stored for one to three days in earthen jars or bottles in modern times. The rust tint of tuba is acquired through the addition of powdered bark called tangal.

From coconut water, comes a syrup concentrate for tuba. Tuba is a sweet, fresh or mildly fermented sap taken from tapping the young expanded flowers of the coconut. It is said that only tough men can withstand the effect of Tuba that affects men’s senses and sanity. Filipinos consider Tuba as a type of hard drink.

LAMBANOG

Lambanog is wine made from coconut. Lambanog is famous for its potency that normally carries about 80 to 90 proof variations. It is mostly produced in the Quezon Province, Philippines. It has been passed down throughout generations of coconut plantation farmers. The process involves collecting the sap from the coconut flower, similar to rubber tree tapping. The sap is then cooked and fermented to become tuba, it is a popular coconut toddy. The tuba is then distilled to make Lambanog.

BASI

Basi is a sugar cane wine made in Ilocos Norte and particularly plentiful in Naguilian where a Basi Festival is held annually. The product has been produced and consumed even before the invasion of the Spaniards. The strong basi is called basi lalaki and if it is weak, basi babae.
Basi wine is made by fermenting boiled, freshly extracted, sugar cane juice. The juice is then boiled in vats and stored in earthen jars. Once it has been cooled, flavorings made of ground glutinous rice and duhat (java plum) bark or other fruits or barks is added. A dried powdered starter is used to start the fermentation. The mixture is left for up to three months to ferment and up to one year to age. The final product is a light brown color and has a sweet and a sour flavor.

You Tube of Susan Boyle @ BGT 2009

Never judge a book by its cover. That’s exactly what happened to the three judges of Britains Got Talent 2009 and Susan Boyle is the living proof of that quote. They got the biggest shocked of their lives when the 47 year old woman Susan Boyle sang Les Miserables’ I Dreamed A Dream. I am not familiar with the song but Susan Boyle made me love it. Her angelic theatrical voice and singing prowess gave her three yeses among the completely surprised judges and audience as well. Guys it’s a talent search so let the contestants show what they got first before your judgment. Okay??? Like what Judge Amanda said, “It’s a wake up call” and I guess ma’am it’s a big lesson learned not only to you and your co-judges but also to those at your back and the whole humanity. Go Susan!!! Go for your dream. Check this out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lp0IWv8QZY&feature=related for the video.

I DREAMED A DREAM
Les Miserables

I dreamed a dream in time gone by
When hope was high
And life worth living
I dreamed that love would never die
I dreamed that God would be forgiving.

Then I was young and unafraid
And dreams were made and used
And wasted
There was no ransom to be paid
No song unsung
No wine untasted.

But the tigers come at night
With their voices soft as thunder
As they tear your hope apart
As they turn your dream to shame.

And still
I dream he'll come to me
That we will live the years together
But there are dreams that cannot be
And there are storms
We cannot weather...

I had a dream my life would be
So different from this hell I'm living
so different now from what it seemed
Now life has killed
The dream I dreamed.

The pain of Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA)

I have been a fulltime housewife for several years now after resigning from my work. At home, I practically do all the household chores: ironing, laundry, cooking, washing, cleaning, etc. Name it I do it. I am turning 36 this June and there are instances already that I already feel pain on my joints especially on my knees and hands. Is that what they called medically a “rheumatoid arthritis?” Physically, it is really painful. Actually I am scared too if this pain will occur often and how it will affect my day-to-day work at home. It is really irritating when you feel some pain inside of you while at work.

I saw some ads on TV using an old lady finding it hard to do her stuff because of joints’ pain and I find it misleading. What I understand about RA is that it may occur even as early as 30’s. I would appreciate much the ads that will clearly show what is RA, how to deal with it, basic things to do like daily exercise aside from the regular medication. Currently, my brother-in-law suggested Glucosamine with Chondroitin to rebuild cartilage and treat arthritis as for my maintenance. Another drug he gave me is Prednisone (daily intake), an anti-inflammatory drug to lessen the stiffness.

The thought of getting ill is really scary for me. My kids are still young and they need a mom to guide them and do stuff for them. Joint pain is really painful and I would have like to prevent of having it as much as possible. My joint pain occurs occasionally and a magazine ad would be effective and informative to explain what RA is and how to deal with it.
