Manny Pacquiao's P25M yacht

The P25M Italian-made yacht of Manny Pacquiao, named “Sarangani’s Pride,” is his surprise treat to the family after his victory over Mexican champion Juan Manuel Marquez. It has been considered as the “Ferrari” of yachts with four rooms—two suites and two guest rooms—each with their own bathrooms. It’s also equipped with modern facilities such as a satellite. And to top it all, the yacht includes three jetskis, worth P1 million each. But the said gift created another controversy for Manny showing his extravagance while he could just use the money to help our fellow Filipinos in Mindanao victimized by Sendong.

Personal View: I guess Manny should not have been criticized for wanting a P25M yacht as a gift to his precious family. On his part, he may have been thought about and paid it before the disaster happened. He can afford it while at the same time extended his help to our fellow Filipinos in Mindanao out of his personal money.

What is important is we all try to extend our help to our fellow Filipinos, cash or in kind, the help that really comes from our hearts. Together we can be able to help them start a new life and give hope that they can move on from our support and the government as well.

Let us look forward for the coming 2012 with positive outlook in life, good words and deeds, and work together for our beloved country because the worst is yet to come, as experts said so.

Muscle Stimulator

What is Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS) or also known as Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES)? What is the importance of Muscle Stimulator in the medical field? It is a kind of therapy wherein electric impulses are being generated by a machine, travel through electrodes on the patient’s skin and then into their muscles that bring about muscle contraction. The process involves restoration of muscle tone and strength to the patients undergoing through physical therapy. This electrical muscle contraction enables patients who are unable to exercise in the usual manner due to incapacity for whatever reason to still develop muscle tone and strength.

How NMES machine works? At a safe current rate, the machine conducts electric currents to the muscle. It will start first by placing self-adhesive electrodes to the motor points onto the desired muscle or muscle system. Slow adjustment of the machine is needed until the patient feel the current passing through the skin and into the muscle. Remember, the higher the setting is set, the faster the muscle will contract and relax. Repetition of the process will depend on the desired result the patient want to achieve or is of satisfaction. Patients with diabetes or who have recent muscle damage can benefit from the use of these muscle stimulators. Likewise, these can prevent muscle atrophy and amputation on patients with unused limbs by stimulating the muscles and prevent decay from disuse.

In the U.S., the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) regulates the sale of all electrical muscle stimulators. These muscle stimulators are considered devices and may cause harm to its users like shocks, burns, bruising, skin irritation, and pain that is why strict regulations must be implemented to protect and ensure the safety of the consuming public. Getting muscle stimulators from reputable supplier is very important because it also ensure the user that it goes under FDA regulations and it’s safe from use.

Tropical storm "Sendong"

My heart is totally wrecked by the aftermath scenes brought about by tropical storm “Sendong” in Cagayan de Oro. It is not just the properties that lost but the thousands of people died and still missing, a horrible scene just days before Christmas. If there’s one comforting truth that can at least alleviate our sorrows towards our fellow Filipinos is the outpouring of help from the government, public and private individuals. In our own little ways, let us all work and contribute together to extend our help to our distraught Filipinos. Moreover, let us offer prayers for them that they may overcome this and have a positive outlook in their new life.

SC Chief Justice Corona impeached

A total of 188 congressmen signed the impeachment complaint against Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona for betrayal of public trust and culpable violation of the Constitution. The House secretary-general was ordered by the plenary to endorse the said impeachment complaint to the Senate, where a trial will commence on 2012.

Summary of the impeachment complaint vs CJ Corona
Senate ready to hold trial for Corona
Corona impeach trial to start in 2012: Enrile
More than 150 sign impeachment rap vs Corona
Palace distances self from oust Corona calls
Minority ready to block Corona ouster
Corona impeachment 'mother of all blackmails' - Lagman

Personal view:

SC Chief Justice Corona, the people is not considering your silence as a sign of weakness but I hope you will be able to defend yourself against all the accusations in the impeachment complaint. But does the House of Representatives needs to impeach you? I may not be an expert in law but you can feel the strong resistance of Filipinos against you. You accepted a post included in the so-called “midnight appointments” and by accepting such position you deprived the incoming president duly elected by the people to choose his Chief Justice among the nominees prepared by the Judicial and BarCouncil.
Resigning from your post I think will be the most appropriate and noble act to do amidst these controversies. We all love our country, we all respect our Constitution but the country needs to move on with a Chief Justice clear of any bad accusations, someone who has integrity and full trust and confidence of the Filipino people. The Supreme Court is the highest court of our country and if there are people who need first to respect, value and uphold the importance of the institution that duties lies on the Chief Justice and Associate Justices.

No to Mining in Palawan, let your voice be counted

In support to the advocacy of the “Save Palawan Movement,” I am wholeheartedly giving this space of my blog to help in the awareness campaign of the movement to save our fellow Filipinos in Palawan, and the country in general. I am encouraging every Filipino around the world to take a look at this issue and let your voice be counted. Be part of the ten million signatures and help stop mining in Palawan.

The Save Palawan Movement, a multi-sectoral coalition of concerned environmental, legal religious and other civic groups launched the “No to Mining in Palawan” signature campaign last Thursday (February 3) in the hope of putting an end to mining activities in Palawan, known as the Philippines’ Last Ecological Frontier. The campaign aims to raise ten million signatures to deliver a strong message to the Philippine and Palawan governments so that they would finally say no to mining in Palawan and help protect one of the Philippines’ last remaining treasures. Present at the launch were ABS-CBN Foundation Managing Director Gina Lopez, Palawan Mayor Edward Hagedorn, “running priest” Fr. Robert Reyes, environment leaders Clemente Bautista (Kalikasan People’s Network for the Environment) and Atty. Jose Andres Canivel (Philippine Tropical Forest Conservation Foundation), and Rhodora Angela Ferrer of the Catholica Educational Association of the Philippines. They were joined by Kabang Kalikasan ng Pilipinas (WWF-Philippines) president Jose Lorenzo Tan, country director for Conservation International Romy Trono, Atty. Gerthie Mayo-Anda of Environmental Legal Asistance Center, executive director of Palawan NGO Network Inc. Atty Bobby Chan, Tanggol Kalikasan executive director Atty. Rolly Bisquera–Sheen, Alyansa Tigil Mina national coordinator Jaybee Garganera and various leaders of the environmental movement in the country. The ten million signature campaign came about after the killing of Dr. Gerardo “Doc Gerry” Ortega, a civic leader who championed the protection of Palawan’s rich biodiversity and an outspoken critic of mining operations in Palawan.

Pres. Aquino vs CJ Corona

The hottest issue in the land now happened during the justice summit held at Manila Hotel where President Noynoy Aquino openly criticized the Supreme Court (SC) and Chief Justice Renato Corona. Others find it rude and disrespectful but it’s the opposite for many. Was this an insult or the president is just trying to send a strong message to members of the Supreme Court and Chief Justice Corona about their performance?

If respect is an issue here then I believed the president did nothing wrong. Why? The former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and the Chief Justice Renato Corona never show that to now President Aquino. Days after the 2010 Elections, the former president appointed Corona as the 23rd Chief Justice of the Philippines. Why such an act? Why not give the honor to the incoming president of appointing the Chief Justice with the help of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP)? Respect begets respect.

Of course I wanted the executive and judiciary branches of our country to work harmoniously for the benefit of the country but how will it happen if everything started in bad taste. Can we blame the president for mentioning the midnight appointment during the summit if from the start of his presidency he was deprived of appointing his Chief Justice, a true disrespectful act? Can we blame a president if he blatantly criticized the Supreme Court for questionable decisions or unattended jobs?

The Filipino people are thirsty for righteous leaders, someone who will fight for their rights and keep his promise. Many government agencies are used to wrongdoings and abuse of powers brought about by the former government. I guess that’s the reason why many Filipinos see nothing wrong about the justice summit incident.

If Chief Justice Renato Corona values transparency, justice and respect over the laws of the land then he will resign from his post. He from the very start had the choice of accepting or not the appointment but even if he did there still time to think it over. His resignation will not only give peace between the executive and judiciary branches of the land but an honorable act and a righteous example of a “diplomatic sacrifice” for love of country.

The people’s reaction over this issue must serve as a warning to other members of the Supreme Court. Being members of the highest court in the land, it is your utmost responsibility to interpret the laws in its essence and render decisions righteously and with all integrity apart from affiliations, interest or personal grudge.

Electronic Dalaw (e-dalaw) of BJMP

The "Electronic Dalaw" (e-Dalaw) program of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) - Quezon City Jail was launched to help inmates contact their friends or relatives without leaving the jail. This has a great advantage especially for inmates with families living far away from the jail to keep connected.

This program is a project of  Quezon City Jail Warden Supt. Joseph T. Vela and Assistant Solicitor General Karl Miranda and Quezon City serves as the pilot jail of this project and will be introduced to other jail facilities in the country.

The Quezon City Jail has provided five computers, with software application Skype, enabling inmates to make voice and video calls, as well as chat with their loved ones. Each inmate is allowed only five minutes of Skype use daily. Inmates should line up while waiting for his or her relatives or friends to be on-line before entry to the Internet room. Moreover, inmates can use Skype only from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Relatives of inmates who want to avail themselves of Skype calls must make a request one week before the intended call and must send an email request at skypemeinjailqc@yahoo.com, indicate the time and date when call will be made, and full name of inmate to be called.

Will undefeated American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. truly face Pacquiao on May 5, 2012? He might have twitted his challenge over Pacquiao, but will he compromised with him as to requirements and terms so that this much awaited fight will finally come true?  On Pacquiao's corner, he announced that talks are ongoing and he sent his adviser Michael Koncz to talk to Bob Arum about the superfight.

May this bout be pushed as many boxing fans await who will win between these 2 world's great boxers amidst previous controversies. Good luck Pacman! Wish you all the best to win in the superfight.

Hacienda Luisita for distribution

Another big issue that rose from the backyard of the Supreme Court is regarding the Hacienda Luisita. The ruling said that 4,915.75-hectare sugar estate must be distributed to 6,296 farmers. Now the big issue lies on the compensation of the sugar estate owners who are relatives of our president.

In this issue, I have nothing against our farmers but I believed that for the benefit that they will receive from the government just compensation must be given to land owners whether it is connected to a president or a private individual. Beneficiaries must try to comprehend that land owners also have the right to negotiate regarding “just compensation” from the government in giving out their lands to help our farmers. We must help each other in a way no one will benefit more from the other, or else that’s per se is unjust.

May this issue be resolved peacefully by the parties concerned without another shed of blood.

KC & Piolo called it quits

I just happened to see the interview of Tito Boy Abunda to one of my favorite stars KC Concepcionon on "The Buzz." It was all about KC, Piolo Pascual and their ever controversial relationship. My heart melted as I saw KC crying as she tried to answers the questions of Tito Boy. It’s really hard to speak matters of the heart in front of national TV and for that I admired her. Nobody knows the deep pain KC had but seeing those tears I know some girls in a relationship out there can relate how painful it is to be in that situation.

In a relationship, parties must understand that it’s a give and take turns in terms of everything: love, respect, understanding, support and forgiveness. It is hard that there’s only one among the two who always give and never receive anything, with that you will start questioning is it right? Does he or she sincerely love me? Is it still working for both of us? Or end it despite the pain?

KC, I know you are a strong and intelligent woman. There is nothing wrong in loving and fighting for the person we love but it entails pain. At some point we just really need to think if working out the relationship worth it or giving an end will do more good despite the pain. I pray that you find the true love you wished for and always remember that you are blessed with a loving family especially your mom. Ms. Sharon Cuneta. We all deserve to be happy with people we love, who loves us back.

I saw the speeches of ABS-CBN Chairman & CEO Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez III, GMA Network Inc. owner Felipe “Henry” Gozon and TV5 Manuel “Manny” Pangilinan in the 22nd Philippine Advertising Congress in Camarines Sur. GMA's electoral sabotage news & updates

Last Friday, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) filed electoral sabotage charges at the Pasay City regional trial court against former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo for the alleged massive cheating in the Maguindanao polls in 2007. Also charged with the non-bailable offense are former Maguindanao Gov. Andal Ampatuan Sr., and former election supervisor Lintang Bedol.

The former president underwent the booking procedures inside her hospital today, Saturday, at around 2 p.m. wearing a hospital gown and a neck brace. It was facilitated by PNP Criminial Investigation and Detection Unit Senior Superintendent Joel Coronel.

I know it’s hard for the former president’s family, her friends and loyal allies in politics to see her on that very moment but the judicial process must takes its course. Charges are filed and as such will prevent her from travelling abroad to seek medical treatment.

Different issues on the said electoral sabotage had been in the news for months and many witnesses came out to divulge their participation. The trial for sure will take longer time to resolve in consideration also of the former president’s condition, aside from gathering enough evidences and witnesses on the alleged massive cheating. But I appreciate the gestures of President Noynoy Aquino to serve justice with a heart.

I never thought that President Aquino is politicking over the former president. It must be a must to every succeeding administration to prosecute any allegations towards former government to serve justice for the Filipino people. And to my fellow Filipinos, let us all be calm amidst these political issues.

Bizarre Creature: Aardvark

My son enjoys reading this “Weird Animals Dictionary,” an A to Z of the world’s most bizarre creatures, and he really appreciates the pictures of animals inside the book. The first bizarre animal I want to share with you is the AARDVARK. It is also known as the ant bear, and this unusual mammal is found in Central and southern Africa and has no close relatives. It has a pig-like snout and strong teeth in its jaws, but it hardly ever uses its teeth to bite or chew food. It prefers to gather up ants and termites with its long tongue and swallow them whole.

It has a maximum length of 1.6m (5 ¼ ft). The AARDVARK is one of the best diggers in the animal world. It uses its powerful claws to make burrows that are more than 10 meters (33 ft) in length.

Pacquiao amidst controversies of the Pacquiao-Marquez 3

The PACQUIAO-MARQUEZ 3 fever is still hot and getting hotter but I want to dedicate this article to the pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao.

In the recently concluded fight of the world’s 2 great boxers, controversy arises as to who really win the bout. Others said it was Pacquiao while others believed it was Marquez. Legally and officially it was Pacquiao according to the majority decision of the judges. There maybe people who were happy about the result especially the Pacquiao fans and those who placed their bets on him but the Marquez fans for sure were again frustrated with it. We were all entitled to our opinion and points of view but at the end of the day, whatever words had been said the much-awaited fight was won by Pacquiao.

I felt sad for Pacquiao. Yes it was true that his performance as seen by people around the world was not the performance his fans and expectators were expecting, but he said sorry for that. Was that not easy to understand for those people who got disappointed? Pacquiao is still human and had imperfections and shortcomings as such. He may get himself prepared for the fight but anything can happen during the fight. There were issues of failing to have his strength and conditioning exercise, foot cramps, personal issues, political parties, mafia, lifestyle, etc. Can we just help Pacquiao make realize his shortcomings as a boxer in a way he will understand it and uplift his morale. His performance may not be exemplary as compared to his previous fights but he gave what he can during the fight and he did not cheat to win. Grabbing the crown from the depending king is not easy. Marquez performance during the bout maybe considered up compared to Pacquiao but he failed to give and do more to ensure his winning.

Pacquiao was declared as the winner and retained his title. As a Filipino, we have to be proud of and celebrate amidst issues. We just not celebrate his winning because there is a knock-down or blood sprout from his opponent. The bout was a close fight and Pacquiao won, that’s I think the clear issue. But as to whether Pacquiao performed the way he performed on his previous fights is a different and separate issue.

If there is any good we can do for the pound-for-pound king is to pray for him that whatever happens in the recent bout will teach him a lesson and make him the best and wiser boxer.

Congratulations again Manny!!!

Arroyos WLO & ADO: News & Updates

I first heard the news over the radio (DZMM) about the TRO issued by the Supreme Court (SC) allowing former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and his husband Atty. Mike Arroyo to travel abroad and seek medical treatment abroad immediately. SC Spokesman Atty. Midas Marquez said the judges ruled with 8-5 votes stating that the ban was unconstitutional due to lack of charges on any crime and its consistency with the constitutional presumption of innocence.

It is really hard to comprehend national issues like this if you do not understand the laws. If you are an ordinary Filipino thinking of what the Arroyos have been accused of, you will probably be one of those opposing the travel. On the other hand, you will allow such travel for humanitarian reason or for not believing the charges. Of course for our politicians, it depends on their political affiliations and personal stand on the matter. On the part of our government, they will exhaust all possible means to stop the Arroyos for fear of escaping from possible charges and not serving justice to the Filipino people for crimes believed to have been committed by the Arroyos.

All I know and understand right now is that as a Filipino people we must stay calm amidst this issue and let the legislative and executive resolve the issue. Let us always work hard every day, be the best we can and continue praying for our country.

Pacquiao wins over Marquez with majority decision

Was the recently concluded PACQUIAO-MARQUEZ 3 bout victimized Juan Manuel Marquez of another robbery of what he claimed victory over Manny Pacquiao?

There is no doubt that the PACQUIAO-MARQUEZ 3 bout has been watched by people across the globe from beginning to end. Although Marquez fought a good fight, in every boxing bout the judges’ decisions are always final. Manny was declared as the winner but amidst again the controversy I believed Coach Freddie Roach was right in saying Marquez deserves another fight. Manny’s camp claimed he had foot cramps during the fight that started in the 4th round and continued till the end of the fight. As I watched the bout, I guess that explains the incidents where Manny was caught flatfooted and really affected his performance. On the other hand, CompuBox program that counts and categorizes punches in boxing matches issued official fight statistics showing that Pacquiao threw and landed more punches against Marquez.

Why another 4th installment? The 4th one will be the most exciting match to watch and will give burning pressure to the 2 fighters to push themselves to the limit for a knock-down. To Marquez, too early to quit and Pacquiao, you made Filipinos proud again. CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Pacquiao-Marquez 3

Tomorrow is the much-awaited Pacquiao-Marquez third bout. Who will win the fight? Pacquiao needs to win the fight to put an end as what Marquez and his camp are claiming that they both win the 1st and 2nd bouts. It will be an exciting fight because both boxers need to prove who is who amidst controversies.

On the other issue, Las Vegas must be thankful to Manny Pacquiao for helping them lift their economy on his every fight in Vegas. People are jam-packed to watch the fight of Manny Pacquiao because he gives his all as a fighter, not only for his family and fans but for his country.

Congratulations in advance Manny!!!

Featured Recipe: Garlic Shrimp Lemon Recipe

My kids love pasta dishes. I may not be perfect cooking different pasta dishes but every time I made one they loved it. Why not? I cooked from the heart, not just simply cooking. That is why I thank the internet so much for giving me many ideas about pasta dishes I can cook for my kiddos.

Ingredients:

8 oz Fettuccine Noodles, uncooked
⅓ cup Butter
2 Medium Onions, thinly sliced
4 cloves Garlic, finely minced
2 tsp Flour
½ tsp Salt
½ tsp Pepper
½ cup Half cream & Half milk
1 Tbsp Lemon Juice
1 tsp Lemon Zest
½ cup Grated Parmesan Cheese
1 lb Large Shrimp, peeled and deveined
1 Tbsp Chopped Fresh Parsley

Directions:

Prepare fettuccine according to package directions, drain and keep warm. Prepare shrimp. Meanwhile, in a large skillet, melt butter over medium high and saute onion and garlic for 7-10 minutes, stirring frequently. Reduce heat and stir in flour, salt and pepper until flour just begins to color. Gradually stir in half and half, reduce heat and simmer until thickened, about 5 minutes. Add lemon juice, zest and shrimp and cook for 3 more minutes just until shrimp turns pink. Place warm pasta in a large, warmed serving bowl, toss with sauce mixture and Parmesan cheese.

Patrol 117 in the Philippines

What is PATROL 117 in the Philippines? It is the local version of the popular rescue hotline 911 in the United States. Patrol 117 is the nationwide emergency hotline number in the Philippines wherein people can just direct dial 117 from any cell phone or landline, even from provinces. The emergency dispatcher will immediately connect to the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection or the Red Cross depending on the caller’s needs.

In the recent RAMGEN BAUTISTA murder incident, a friend of the victims in the name of WENDELL CUNANAN called Patrol 117 after receiving a text from JANELLE MANAHAN (victim’s girlfriend) stating the incident and that they need police assistance and an ambulance so that they will be taken to the hospital. The emergency dispatcher coordinated the call to Parañaque police and barangay officials of BF Homes, Parañaque.

The saddest part of it is that there are people who are making prank calls to Patrol 117. Let us understand the importance of this hotline and give way to people’s call who really in need of assistance. By not doing so you will be helping them save more lives and attends to the incident immediately.

DOJ rejected PGMA's ADO

A photo shows former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo wearing a halo vest as part of her recuperation from surgery. The photo is part of the petition submitted by Arroyo's lawyers to the Supreme Court to allow her to travel out of the country to seek medical attention. BUT the Department of Justice (DOJ) rejected the former president’s request for an allow departure order (ADO) to seek treatment abroad. According to Elena Bautista-Horn, spokesperson of GMA, under the Section 6 of the Constitution, an ADO can only be rejected if it involves national security, public safety or public health.

Doctors of the former president at St. Luke’s Medical Center have said that a tetracycline bone biopsy is unavailable in the country and that’s the reason why the former president needs to seek medical treatment abroad. Former President Arroyo was diagnosed with cervical spondylosis and hypoparathyroidism.
