ZIFT @ Santa Monica Fertility

There are men and women, couple or individual, around the world seeking treatment for infertility and fertility treatment. It is impeccable that this treatment must be taken care of by group of specialized and licensed people to help you achieve your dream with utmost guidance and care.

Santa Monica Fertility (SMF) is a fertility treatment center in Southern California. They are serving clients from Santa Monica, Los Angeles, Beverly Hills and the surrounding areas. SMF is being headed by a board-certified reproductive endocrinologist with over twenty years of academic and clinical experience Dr. John Jain. He completed his medical training on the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Southern California for he stayed nearly a decade. He left his position to pursue his own vision of patient care with a goal of improving the likelihood of pregnancy and the birth of healthy babies. His center provides the most advanced reproductive medicine and fertility services available. The center has full spectrum of treatments and fertility-related surgeries includes IVF, artificial insemination, tubal embryo transfer, egg freezing, and a range of other innovative procedures at the forefront of fertility research.

The pregnancy after 40 is sometimes a problem to some women. At SMF, they have this Zygote Intrafallopian Transfer or ZIFT to answer for this. The embryos are placed directly into the fallopian tube in this procedure. This will allow embryos to develop in their most natural environment, as opposed and different to the artificial environment of the IVF laboratory. ZIFT procedure gives pregnancy rates over 40%.

For SMF information and medical services, visit their website or center at 2825 Santa Monica Boulevard,

Ultrasound Machines

What is an ultrasound machine? According to Wikipedia, diagnostic sonography (ultrasonography) is an ultrasound-based diagnostic imaging technique used for visualizing subcutaneous body structures including tendons, muscles, joints, vessels and internal organs for possible pathology or lesions. I am pretty sure many moms out there are familiar with the ultrasound they underwent during their pregnancies. Said machine is what they called obstetric sonography wherein we can take a look of the little angels in our tummies.

Basic question about ultrasound machines lies on its use. These machines can be used for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. With the use of ultrasound, medical practitioners will be properly guided of the proper and exact interventional procedures to treat their patients on hand. In terms of diagnostic, best example I could give is the echocardiography being used by cardiologists to treat patients with heart ailments. Heart is one of the delicate parts of our body. Proper diagnosis must be performed by cardiologist with the help of echocardiography so us not to endanger the patient’s life. When it comes to therapeutic applications, ultrasound machines bring heat or agitation into the body. Two examples of this procedure are lithotripsy wherein focused ultrasound maybe used to break up kidney stones and phacoemulsification for cataract treatment.

Needless to say, ultrasound machines are very important especially in the field of medicine. Likewise, it is equally important that we buy ultrasound machines from a professional and trust worthy company to see to it that we are buying a machine that passed the safety guidelines and standards of the regulating body for such.

Muscle Stimulator

What is Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS) or also known as Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES)? What is the importance of Muscle Stimulator in the medical field? It is a kind of therapy wherein electric impulses are being generated by a machine, travel through electrodes on the patient’s skin and then into their muscles that bring about muscle contraction. The process involves restoration of muscle tone and strength to the patients undergoing through physical therapy. This electrical muscle contraction enables patients who are unable to exercise in the usual manner due to incapacity for whatever reason to still develop muscle tone and strength.

How NMES machine works? At a safe current rate, the machine conducts electric currents to the muscle. It will start first by placing self-adhesive electrodes to the motor points onto the desired muscle or muscle system. Slow adjustment of the machine is needed until the patient feel the current passing through the skin and into the muscle. Remember, the higher the setting is set, the faster the muscle will contract and relax. Repetition of the process will depend on the desired result the patient want to achieve or is of satisfaction. Patients with diabetes or who have recent muscle damage can benefit from the use of these muscle stimulators. Likewise, these can prevent muscle atrophy and amputation on patients with unused limbs by stimulating the muscles and prevent decay from disuse.

In the U.S., the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) regulates the sale of all electrical muscle stimulators. These muscle stimulators are considered devices and may cause harm to its users like shocks, burns, bruising, skin irritation, and pain that is why strict regulations must be implemented to protect and ensure the safety of the consuming public. Getting muscle stimulators from reputable supplier is very important because it also ensure the user that it goes under FDA regulations and it’s safe from use.

NMEDA promotes safe driving & equipment for disabled people

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of NMEDA. All opinions are 100% mine.

One thing disabled people are deprived of is their capacity to travel even alone or with their love ones. Usually they are confined within their homes or in an institution that deprive them on their freedom to travel places, enjoy life and be happy. Boredom is one thing that usually felt by people with disabilities and that make them even harder to accept and move on with life with their incapacities.

NMEDA is the answer. What is NMEDA and what they can do for people with disabilities? NMEDA stands for National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association which is a non-profit trade association. They are known internationally as an organization dedicated to ensuring quality and professionalism in the manufacturing and installation of safe and reliable mobility equipment in vehicles for people with disabilities. The association does not sell anything. It promotes safe driving and equipment for disabled people.

NMEDA dealers (members) are the ones selling handicap vans and vehicle modifications for disabled people. They are required to adhere to the safety standards of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and to follow the association’s guidelines as a member. Also, QAP or the Quality Assurance Program is the only nationally recognized accreditation program for the Adaptive Mobility Equipment Industry. It was developed to promote quality, safety and reliability within the industry based on the principle that in order to satisfy customers consistently, companies must have a systematic and documented approach to quality. Thus in some states, there’s a requirement for dealer’s participation in the QAP to perform work for the Vocational Rehabilitation Program.

The needs and preferences of disabled people vary. To get assistance from a qualified NMEDA dealer just visit nmeda.org and hit the dealer’s locator, type in your ZIP code and see the qualified dealer near you.

Let NMEDA dealer help elderly or disabled get back onto the road of independence.

Tawa Tawa tea (Gatas Gatas) for dengue

As I was busy with my farm @ FarmVille (Facebook app), hubby told me about a certain weed that can cure dengue. We searched on Google about it and found several articles attesting on the effectiveness of this weed. Glad hubby’s technical supervisor has this on his backyard and we are planning to have ours in a rectangular box to have it freely grow in abundance. It is better to be prepared at all times than to be sorry. Below is the Tawa Tawa (or Gatas Gatas to others) tea preparation:
  • Take 5 to 6 full whole Tawa Tawa plants.
  • Cut off the roots, throw it away, it is not included in the tea.
  • Wash and clean
  • Fill your boiling pot with clean water.
  • Boil the Tawa Tawa for 1 (one) minute in a slow rolling boil.
  • Pour the tawa tawa water and let cool.
  • Let the dengue fever victim drink only the tawa tawa water for 24 hours.
  • Sip 1 to 1.5 glasses of tawa tawa water every 1 hour

Lemongrass Tea: Herbal remedy for cancer

Here comes another informative and interesting message I got from my inbox. The message came from a friend and she shared me this study about LEMON GRASS (TANGLAD) with powerful anti-cancer properties.

I am familiar with the plant coz I used it when I make a “chicken turbo” for the family. Somebody even told me that I can put lemon grass into “chicken tinola” instead of ginger but I haven’t tried this one so far. But I never knew that the “Lemon Grass Tea” could cause cancer cells to commit suicide, as in self-destruction. This one is truly good news for everyone, sick or not. As we say prevention is better than cure. I think I’m gonna try to make a Lemon Grass Tea for my family.

I can’t post the exact content of the email because it is quite too long but here is the similar thread from the Associated Content. Check it out. Be aware and stay healthy.

Safe & economical LASIK

I’d been wearing my eyeglasses for years now. I am nearsighted person and my eyeglasses help me see things quite far from my location. It is really hard to have a sight like this but wearing an eyeglasses add to the burden. I am not interested to wear contacts because for me it seems like I’m wearing a frameless eyeglasses and I don’t have time for the cleaning and maintaining such stuff. One day, I heard over the radio that the broadcaster underwent some sort of Lasik procedure and it was very successful. It brings back his vision, safe and clear. I got interested with it so I explored the net about this procedure. For me, that sounds very economical rather than spending money changing my frames and lenses.

Did you know that over a lifetime, a 25 year old wearing extended wear contacts will spend upwards of $20,000? Choosing modern LASIK, also known as iLASIK, invests in your vision and can save you money in the long term.

Today, when every penny counts, many Americans and other nationalities with vision care expenses are taking another look at modern LASIK. How it goes? The iLASIK procedure, combines Wavefront mapping technology with two lasers for a safe and completely tailor-made procedure. It is covered by most health savings accounts, offering a tax deductible way to pay for better vision.

Check this out:
"For me, iLASIK will pay for itself in seven years by eliminating the ongoing cost of glasses, contact lenses and solutions," said Stefanie Fujinami, who had the iLASIK procedure this year with Los Angeles-based ophthalmologist Dr. Robert Maloney. "The next morning I had 20/20 vision -- I could even read the fine print on the toothpaste!"

Such an amazing job and an inspiration to people like me who was a slave of eyeglasses for years now. If we are on the same boat and want this fantastic procedure check them out. For more information and to calculate your lifetime costs of wearing contacts, visit www.iLASIK.com.

The pain of Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA)

I have been a fulltime housewife for several years now after resigning from my work. At home, I practically do all the household chores: ironing, laundry, cooking, washing, cleaning, etc. Name it I do it. I am turning 36 this June and there are instances already that I already feel pain on my joints especially on my knees and hands. Is that what they called medically a “rheumatoid arthritis?” Physically, it is really painful. Actually I am scared too if this pain will occur often and how it will affect my day-to-day work at home. It is really irritating when you feel some pain inside of you while at work.

I saw some ads on TV using an old lady finding it hard to do her stuff because of joints’ pain and I find it misleading. What I understand about RA is that it may occur even as early as 30’s. I would appreciate much the ads that will clearly show what is RA, how to deal with it, basic things to do like daily exercise aside from the regular medication. Currently, my brother-in-law suggested Glucosamine with Chondroitin to rebuild cartilage and treat arthritis as for my maintenance. Another drug he gave me is Prednisone (daily intake), an anti-inflammatory drug to lessen the stiffness.

The thought of getting ill is really scary for me. My kids are still young and they need a mom to guide them and do stuff for them. Joint pain is really painful and I would have like to prevent of having it as much as possible. My joint pain occurs occasionally and a magazine ad would be effective and informative to explain what RA is and how to deal with it.

Cord blood banking by Cryo-Cell

Umbilical cord blood banking is something that expectant parents must take into consideration before their baby’s birth. I had two kids now and unfortunately I do not have any idea about this thing until several months after the birth of my second child through the news on TV. You will really be amazed on how this blood that remains in a baby’s umbilical cord after it has been cut will be valuable someday in saving family members from life-threatening diseases. What makes it possible is because the baby’s cord blood contains and rich in hematopoietic “blood-forming” stem cells similar to those found in bone marrow.

Cryo-Cell, an umbilical cord blood bank, offers unparalleled, innovative and safe solutions for your baby’s cord blood banking. They are dedicated in educating expectant parents about the wonders in doing this kind of miracle banking of their baby’s cord blood. July is Cord Blood Awareness Month so for expectant parents maybe you can take a look on how this unusual kind of banking could someday be a life-saver of a loved one. Visit Cryo-Cell.com for more details about this stem cell collection, processing and preservation plus other informative articles about the importance of cord blood banking.

Broccoli on Prostate Cancer Cells

WIKIPEDIA: Broccoli is high in Vitamin C and soluble fiber and contains multiple nutrients with potent anti-cancer properties including diindolylmethane and selenium. The 3,3’-Diindolylmethane found in broccoli is a potent modulator of the innate immune response system with anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-cancer activity. Broccoli also contains the compound glucoraphanin, which can be processed into an anticancer compound sulforaphane, though the benefits of broccoli are greatly reduced if the vegetable is boiled more than ten minutes. A high intake of broccoli has been found to reduce the risk of aggressive prostate cancer. Broccoli leaf is also edible and contains far more betacarotene than the florets.

Prevention is better than cure. I heard over the radio the news about the power of broccoli in blocking prostate cancer cells. It really pays eating vegetables. That is why as early as now I am training my kids to eat those and teach them what the benefits are for them doing so. Fortunately, hubby and I both liked eating vegetables especially steamed or buttered-garlic one broccoli.

In cooking vegetables do not expose it to your cooking for a longer time because the nutritional contents may suffer. Actually, it is better to eat those half-cooked, right?

Cancer Update from John Hopkins Hospital Part I

I received an email from a dear friend and I decided to post it here to increase awareness on the subject matter.

1. Every person has
cancer cells in the body. These cancer cells do not show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size.
2.
Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person's lifetime.
3. When the person's immune system is strong the
cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumours.
4. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has multiple nutritional deficiencies. These could be due to genetic, environmental, food and lifestyle factors.

5. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet and including supplements will strengthen the immune system.
6. Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly-growing cancer cells and also destroys rapidly-growing healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastro-intestinal tract etc, and can cause organ damage, like liver, kidneys, heart, lungs, etc.
7. Radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs.
8. Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumor size. However, prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more tumor destruction .
9. When the body has too much toxic burden from chemotherapy and radiation the immune system is either compromised or destroyed, hence the person can succumb to various kinds of infections and complications.
10. Chemotherapy and radiation can cause cancer cells to mutate and become resistant and difficult to destroy. Surgery can also cause cancer cells to spread to other sites.
11. An effective way to battle cancer is to starve the cancer cells by not feeding it with the foods it needs to multiply.
12. Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the intestines become putrified and leads to more toxic buildup.
13. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating less meat, it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the body's killer cells to destroy the cancer cells.
14. Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Flor-ssence,Essiac, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFAs etc.) to enable the body's own killer cells to destroy cancer cells. Other supplements like vitamin E are known to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the body's normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted, or unneeded cells.
15. Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit. A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior be a survivor. Anger, unforgiveness and bitterness put the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life.
16. Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment. Exercising daily, and deep breathing help to get more oxygen down to the cellular level. Oxygen therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer cells.

I'll be having a second post for the rest of this email. Take care everyone.

Malunggay's Nutritional and Medicinal Importance

Moringa oleifera, or the horseradish tree, is a pan-tropical species that is known by such regional names as benzolive, drumstick tree, kelor, marango, mlonge, mulangay, nébéday, saijhan, and sajna. Over the past two decades, many reports have appeared in mainstream scientific journals describing its nutritional and medicinal properties. Its utility as a non-food product has also been extensively described, but will not be discussed herein, (e.g. lumber, charcoal, fencing, water clarification, lubricating oil). As with many reports of the nutritional or medicinal value of a natural product, there are an alarming number of purveyors of “healthful” food who are now promoting M. oleifera as a panacea. While much of this recent enthusiasm indeed appears to be justified, it is critical to separate rigorous scientific evidence from anecdote. Those who charge a premium for products containing Moringa spp. must be held to a high standard. Those who promote the cultivation and use of Moringa spp. in regions where hope is in short supply must be provided with the best available evidence, so as not to raise false hopes and to encourage the most fruitful use of scarce research capital. It is the purpose of this series of brief reviews to: (a) critically evaluate the published scientific evidence on M. oleifera, (b) highlight claims from the traditional and tribal medicinal lore and from non-peer reviewed sources that would benefit from further, rigorous scientific evaluation, and (c) suggest directions for future clinical research that could be carried out by local investigators in developing regions.
