The
Senate of the Philippines is now on the move to re-open the investigation on the controversial
ZTE NBN Deal. This is so due to the coming out of a witness with a code name
“Alex” together with pictures of
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and her
husband playing golf in
Shenzhen Golf Club supposedly arranged by then COMELEC Chairman
Benjamin Abalos together with ZTE officials. The photos were taken November 2 of 2006, five months before the controversial project had been awarded to ZTE, but never come out in the open until the surprise witness presented those pictures in the media.
Politicians are saying that it is a clear indication of the Philippine President’s involvement on the deal. The president’s act is highly prohibited from the Head of State to do and against anti-graft and corrupt practices act according to Congressman Rolex Suplico. The MalacaƱang denied all the negative accusations and stated that nothing fishy happened on that golf game.
