Family's New Year celebration
Today marks the beginning of 2009. Though there are bad and good forecasts about the New Year we must always keep a positive outlook, have a good heart, work hard and keep that faith in God.
How is your New Year celebration? As for the family, we occasionally had our Media Noche (Midnight Meal) and some fireworks and merrymaking sounds. Our meal composed of some grilled food like barbeque, big squid or what we called “lumot” in the
Cooking preparations: One hour before I grill the squid I soaked it in pineapple juice while chopping the filling which consists of tomatoes, onions and cheese. In the grill, to keep the filling intact inside the squid I put some toothpicks in its opening. In grilling squid, don’t grill it for a long time coz it will lose its juiciness and it might taste bitter. As for our one-piece pla-pla, I put some butter and Maggi Magic Sarap on to the skin to prevent it from sticking into the aluminum foil and as seasoning as well. I also made some filling composed of mixed tomatoes, onions, ginger, salt and pepper. In grilling seafood, don’t do it quite long and the flame must set low to avoid overcooking and bitter taste. The barbeque and the spaghetti were additions coming from my mother-in-law who just lived at the back of the house.
We had some fireworks but I could say they were all awesome. We had 2 big fountains I bought for P75.00 each and 1 small one for P50.00. The other fireworks are the stuff that goes up in the sky, blow up and gives amazing lights. They were all great and I think I will buy the same set of firecrackers for the next New Year celebration. Have a blessed and prosperous New Year from our family to yours!!!♥♥♥

Family will watch a MMFF entry
While busy with the chores, my daughter asked me if we could watch Shake, Rattle & Roll X. It was one of the entries in the 34th Metro Manila Film Festival which is a comedy-horror film comprising of 3 stories. It has been her request to watch in a theater since the showing of High Musical 3. We were not able to do it so we decided to watch after Christmas.
Actually, hubby and I are not fond of going into movie theaters but it would be kind of unfair if we will deprive the kids to experience it so we scheduled the viewing tomorrow, Sunday after the mass in SM Marikina. The kids are so excited about it but I am quite curious if they can bear to stay long watching a horror movie, LOL. They get easily scared and I am thinking of the possibility of them asking to leave the theater.
It has been several years already since my last visit in a movie house so it is gonna be like my first time again just like my kids, hehehe! I usually stuck at home busy doing the chores and taking care of the kids and hubby so I just enjoy watching movies on TV. I think it will be an exciting one especially when kids started to scream.

Preparing for New Year
Christmas is over but gift giving, outing and reunions continue. As the family prepare for the coming of 2009, hubby and I planned and budgeted the remaining holidays for some tasks to be done. While hubby will be busy cleaning and doing the maintenance of the van, one of my jobs is the repainting of our window grills. I already started cleaning the grills and actually painted one window with a red primer. We decided to change the color from white to black with a touch of gold. Also, the last week of vacation will be devoted to kids for recall and reviews of their lessons plus some household cleaning and arrangements.
Tomorrow, December 27, will be going to Obando, Bulacan where hubby’s transmitter house for their AM station situated. His technical staff will have their get-together. We will be bringing the kids for some fishing and maybe buy some firecrackers for New Year’s Eve. It’s a week before New Year so better start your preparations early.

Long Holiday
When I knew the news about the “long holiday” for employed individuals I must accept that I felt happy instantly. Not only that hubby can take a long rest from work but we will have more time for family bonding. From December 25 to January 1 were the confirmed dates of vacation while waiting for the announcement for January 2, a Friday. PGMA needs to consult the DOLE and the business sector before she can decide if she will declare it as a non-special working day too.
Though hubby is working in a radio network operating on a daily basis except for Holy Week, he need not to report for work since his personnel will be doing all the remaining technical concerns and projects of the year aside from the daily broadcast. I guess during those times he will be on on-call basis if there are big technical concerns that will arise during the long holiday. For information on the rules for those who will go on overtime during the long holiday click here for details of the rates.
This long holiday will enable employed individuals to be with their loved ones on these holidays especially those who traditionally travel, by land, sea or air, to spend holidays with the family. Since this long holiday seldom happens, let us all fill it with great memories and valuable moments with our loved ones. HAPPY VACATION & take care!!!

Daughter asked for cellphone as Christmas gift
Family just went to mall for some additional shopping for hubby’s gifts to his technical personnel. He used to manage the Engineering Department of a radio network and annually he gives them something of use at home or in the office. It is not hard to find gift like that so we went straight on SM Marikina’s Department Store. Fortunately, unlike in other SM branches and malls the SM in
Another thing hubby and I scouted for was the cellphone we will give to our daughter as a Christmas gift. Kids nowadays are far different. They are fond of gadgets, accessories and things they see around them. She keeps on requesting for a cellphone as a Christmas gift but we are in doubt if we will grant it. After weighing things, we opted to buy one for her. We chose the pink NOKIA 3110 Classic for her. I am pretty sure she will like it coz aside from the color it has a camera and FM station. Just keep my fingers cross on her promise that she will study harder.
Sometimes parents do give in on the request of their kids for them not to feel they are left behind by others. Its just that for parents, we need to weigh things first and if it is a yes or a no what is important is that we explain to them why or why not. What do you think???

Christmas Party
This week is a very special and merry one coz companies and schools had their respective Christmas parties. My kids both had their parties at school on December 19. Justin, who is in the Nursery level, had his party from 7:20am until 9:30am. I woke him at 6:30am and sent him school just right before their party started. It was his first Christmas party in the school so I am pretty sure he had a great time dancing, singing and fun with the games. They had an exchange gift worth P100.00 and he received 2 sets of puzzles, a number and alphabet puzzles.
As for my daughter, she had their party at around 3:00pm right after their periodical exam. They took the exam from 12:00nn to 2:20pm and had a 30 minute break for the snack and to change outfit for the party. She received cologne and towel by bench during their exchange gifts.
Nicole with red strap.
Hubby too had their party in the office on December 19 right after the office hours. Everybody was so happy to hear that aside from the 13th month pay the company will be giving them bonus. He was not able to finish the party because he needs to attend in another party, a get together with his high school batchmates.
It is only 5 days before Christmas and despite different forecasts about 2009 let us feel the joy that the season brings. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Simbang Gabi (Misa de Gallo)
Selling of traditional Philippine food like bibingka, puto bumbong and salabat (ginger tea) is also common during Christmas season. We are living in Rizal so every time we visit my family in
Christmas is really my favorite among the celebrations. There is love, kindness and sharing among people. Moreover, hope is in our hearts and that will give us the strength and courage to go on with life no matter how hard it may seem.

Family @ Toy Kingdom & Osh Kosh
My kids’ Christmas parties will coincide on one date, December 19. Both of them will have their respective exchange gifts so we decided to go to mall and buy their presence. One of the places where we go to buy gifts for kids is
Aside from toys, we bought their party clothing at Osh Kosh. There are quite customers in the store as compared buying inside the SM Department Store where you need to line up in the cashier after you pick your things especially on weekends. Christmas is nearing so better yet go to malls on weekdays for a fewer mallers, LOL.

Patola con Miswa
I missed blogging for quite a long time especially my featured recipes. Seeing my traffic, I saw people landing on my blogs about my different recipes. I hope you find it great. Let me share you again one of my dishes that I usually cook for my kids.
Ingredients:
- ¼ kilo of ground pork
- 3 cloves of garlic, pounded
- 1 big onions, sliced
- 2 pieces miswa (fine wheat vermicelli)
- 1 medium size green gourd (patola)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Cooking procedures:
Put ground pork in a pan with water. Simmer it until tender for about 15 minutes. Get the ground pork and set aside the broth. On a separate pan, fry garlic and onion. Add the ground pork and salt to taste. Mixed for about 3 minutes. Add the broth and miswa and simmer for 5 minutes. Add the sliced patola and pepper and mixed until patola is cook. Serve hot during snack or with rice.
In buying patola, choose the softer one for a seedless or lesser seed patola.

3 rural banks declared holiday
The bank holiday declaration of 3 rural banks came to a surprise from its disgruntled depositors. The Pilipino Rural Bank in (PRB) in Mandaue City, Philippine Countryside Rural Bank (PCRB) in Consolacion and the Rural Bank of Parañaque simultaneously declared their respective holidays. The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) is now investigating the 3 banks on what caused the holiday. It also suspected that the 3 banks are being owned by same person and that it maybe involved in a sort of pyramiding scam.
I really can’t help but pity those depositors who now may find a hard time getting back their hard earned money especially now that holidays is nearing. If ever those depositors will be able to get hold of their monies again with the help of Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC) I guess the process will not be that easy and fast. In this kind of occurrence, the government may find it hard to convince people to save to rural banks in fear of what happened.

Benefits of Balance Transfer
Sometimes, credit card holders forget to monitor their purchases and charges against their cards that resulted to huge outstanding balances. The 3.5% monthly interest is the usual charges of these credit card providers and having higher balance will only leave you paying only for the interest alone and small or even none for the principal. In this scenario, Balance Transfer will be very beneficial for the card holder to take. With this promo, you can be able to pay a large or maybe in full your outstanding balance and you only need to pay for a much lower monthly payment for the transfer. The interest rate is also very low ranging from 0.70% to a maximum of 1.67% per month as compared to 3.5% usual charge of credit card companies. Actually, some banks are even giving FREE ITEMS upon approval of your Balance Transfer Application.
I am clueless before about this Balance Transfer promo but when I knew about it I know what to do at times our balances rise up. Actually, I just recently get approved for a Balance Transfer from East West Bank and I am expecting our Nintendo DS Lite as the freebie for their promo. You can check the promo here. This is the credit card of hubby but exclusively use by my parents for their business.
Balance Transfer could also be an entry point to get hold of another credit card as long as you are in good credit standing with your old card/s.
