MV Princess of the Stars with Endosulfan???

Endosulfan is highly toxic in whatever state, according to experts. Now that the capsized MV Princess of the Stars contained this toxic, what will happen now?

Dr. Romeo Quijano, a technical expert from the UP Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the UP Manila, who has done extensive study on the highly-toxic pesticide endosulfan, says the chemical belongs with the likes of other Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) like DDT and has been the subject of attempts at global banning. Looking at the worst-case scenario involving the toxic cargo, Quijano warns a leak of the highly-toxic chemical endosulfan could have far reaching consequences, polluting not just Philippine waters but the entire globe.

If that is so, retrieval of all the cargos contained in that Sulpicio Line especially the toxic ones must be immediately attended by the Philippine government and other countries to prevent any harmful effects of this pesticide in the environment and people as well the soonest possible time.

I condoled with the relatives of those who have been victimized by this yet another sea tragedy in the Philippines. I hope and pray that law makers will pass laws that will give value and importance to human lives in whatever product or service they are availing for. Read more…
