Up Close and Personal with Sto. Niño

Every 3rd Sunday of January people from Tondo commemorate one of the country’s renowned and well-celebrated festivals, the feast of Sto. Niño. Fr. Erick Santos, Parish Priest of Sto. Niño Parish, is always the top busiest person every fiesta to see to it that everything will be peaceful and organized. The celebration started with a traditional procession of devotees carrying their Sto. Niño images while dancing in the street. After that it was followed by a pagoda carrying the image of Sto. Niño from Spain accompanied by other 20 smaller boats. Then at a certain point or place the image was transferred into a carrier for procession in different streets of Tondo before sending it back to church. Being part of the procession every year was really an amazing experience for me and actually it is already a “vow” or my commitment to my beloved Sto. Niño to always take part in the procession.

I am thankful and blessed to have a chance of seeing the original Sto. Niño right in a room where it was placed by its caretaker. The image was really amazing and it’s an overwhelming experience to have a glimpse of little Jesus really so close. Thanks to the parishioners and police escort who granted us to see the image despite of tight security they are implementing every festival. Please check some pictures of mine I took last Sto. Niño Fiesta 2008.
