Forbes' World's Highest-Paid Athletes

Pound for Pound boxer, Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao, is the highest-ranking of the four newcomers in Forbes’ World’s Highest-Paid Athletes. He earned over $40 million over the last 12 months for him to bag the 6th rank in the list. His 2 blockbuster fights with Oscar De La Hoya and Ricky Hatton plus numerous endorsements in the Philippines gave him the millions.

Forbes’ list of the highest-paid athletes, looks at earnings derived from salaries, bonuses, prize money, endorsements and licensing income between June 2008 and June 2009 and does not deduct for taxes or agents' fees. Overall, the top 20 earned $789 million, down 1% from last year. The cutoff to make the list was $30 million. Below are the Top 20 athletes:

  • Tiger Woods - $110 million
  • Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan & Kimi Raikkonen - $45 million
  • David Beckham - $42 million
  • Manny Pacquiao, James & Mickelson - $40 million
  • Valentino Rossi - $35 million
  • Dale Earnhardt Jr. - $34 million
  • Roger Federer, Shaquille O’Neal, Oscar De La Hoya, Lewis Hamilton & Alex Rodriguez - $33 million
  • Vijay Singh - $31 million
  • Kevin Garnett, Jeff Gordon, Derek Jeter & Ronaldinho - $30 million
