Media Noche, firecrackers, & other traditions

These are the firecrackers we bought from a relative.

The traditional 12 rounded fruits we had last New Year.

We still have 2 more days to go before we say goodbye to 2008 and welcome 2009 full of hopes and dreams. Do you have already in mind what to have for your “Media Noche”? How about those colorful and banging firecrackers to drive away those bad spirits? Filipino families traditionally prepare other things aside Media Noche and firecrackers like 12 rounded fruits that symbolize money, 12 green candles to serve as light and guidance throughout the year, wearing of dotted clothes, and more.

There are many other things being done traditionally for the hope of good life in the New Year. Traditions handed down from generation to generation. But we must always remember, with or without those things we must always keep a good heart, work hard and have a strong faith in God as we go on with the coming years. No one can tell exactly what will happen in the future but together we can make it peaceful and flourishing. Have a blessed and prosperous New Year from our family to yours!
